Frequently asked questions

At The Doula Mama Collective, we believe in empowering expectant parents with knowledge and support. Our approach is built on understanding your needs and providing compassionate care throughout your birth journey. Below, you'll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive.

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to a mother and her family before, during, and after birth. A doula does not replace your doctor or midwife. Instead, I come alongside your care team to help you feel supported, informed, prepared, and cared for throughout your experience.

What if my birth doesn’t go according to plan?

Birth rarely looks exactly the way we imagined—and that’s okay. My role as your doula isn’t to guarantee a certain type of birth, but to support, encourage, and advocate for you through whatever path your birth takes.

Are Doulas only for first time mothers?

Absolutely not! In fact, it may be because someone experienced a traumatic birth experience the first time around that they seek out more holistic, evidence-based care in subsequent pregnancies. Doulas are for every mother, regardless of how many babies and births you’ve already had.

How far in advance should I book your services?

There is no “perfect” time to hire a doula, but I recommend reaching out as early as possible in pregnancy. Booking early allows us plenty of time to get to know one another, discuss your hopes and concerns, create a birth plan, and prepare for the experience together. However, if you’re already well into your pregnancy, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Do you only support natural births?

Absolutely not! I support mothers in all types of births. Whether you are planning an unmedicated birth, an epidural, an induction, or a planned cesarean, my goal is to support YOU and the birth experience you desire. Birth can be unpredictable, and I will continue to support you if your plans change along the way.

What if I don’t know what kind of birth I want?

That’s completely okay! You don’t have to have every detail figured out before hiring a doula. One of the things I love about doula work is helping families explore their options, understand what is important to them, and prepare for different possibilities. My goal is never to push you toward a particular type of birth—it is to help you feel prepared and supported in whatever your birth journey looks like.
